He should be signed at $4 mil, I think he's not keen to move.Schrickhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18272933952054099026noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-703672817425686916.post-77351686605281080052009-04-28T10:28:00.000-04:002009-04-28T10:28:00.000-04:00Topham,

His performance this year makes him very valuable because of his low salary, and Edmonton does sound like a decent fit. There's also Philly, which will be possibly losing Biron this year and are up against the cap, though I'm not sure the Habs should be handing a conference rival a starting goalie unless there's something significant coming back (Briere? I would hope not). As for Higgins, I think he is a given to stay because of what he showed in a checking role late in the season. That will likely be his role moving forward, and he'll be paid as such. I don't think he's a threat to be an offer sheet target, and he'll have trouble getting a big raise in arbitration with his numbers this season. As for Koivu/Kovalev, I too would opt for Koivu, but I'm not sure he's going to choose the Habs. I think he's grown a little sick of it here and might want to see if the grass is greener elsewhere. On Komisarek, he's a UFA and that means he'll be overpaid if he makes it to July 1. He sounds like he's letting his agent handle it, and Matt Keator has a reputation for putting his players on the auction block. If that happens, there's some GM out there that will overpay him on Day 1 of free agency. I don't think Komisarek is done as a player, though, he just hit a bump in the road, much like a lot of his teammates.Arpon Basuhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11896844844557916169noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-703672817425686916.post-21291500869574695512009-04-28T09:12:00.000-04:002009-04-28T09:12:00.000-04:00Merci this is by far the best Habs blog and on m...Merci this is by far the best Habs blog and on most mornings, the best source for news about our teamMikehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12881811007720608894noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-703672817425686916.post-42814842297049678172009-04-28T07:26:00.000-04:002009-04-28T07:26:00.000-04:00I make a point of reading your blog every morning....I make a point of reading your blog every morning..always worth the effort. Do you think he's a given to stay, even thoug he's not the player we pencilled into the depth chart for the past few years. Perhaps, they see this as making up for the fact that Chipchura might never make the NHL...

Komisarek must be a certainty to stay I would have thought. His terrible season may look good in a few if we can sign him for less and he plays like it's 2007. On the other hand, people will always be open to a trade for a big D – all infected with the virus where they beloeve they can turn careers around (see Jose Theodore still in employ).

Re: Koivu/Kovalev, I actually think the Habs might lean to Koivu (and heavily). Both are amazing players and I'd be sad to see either go, but though they both step up their production, Kovalev can be noticeably smothered, whereas Koivu has that uncheckable player in him. It's an interesting one to watch.

The other one I was surprised you didn't mention was Halak. I don't think there's anyway that the Price/Halak duo sees the light of day again. For whatever reason, Halak seems to disrupt Carey. Now that Carey has been reaffirmed (warts and all), Jaro could be gone. It feels like a draft day move, simply because that's when GMs become the most frantic and ante up. I don't think Tampa is the Halak team, but think a team like Edmonton could express interest.Tophamhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14157334079663330151noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-703672817425686916.post-40300478117959790862009-04-27T18:21:00.000-04:002009-04-27T18:21:00.000-04:00Arpon,

Man.. I just love the Habs.

I would say that a few teams will be more conservative with the state of the economy.... so maybe, just maybe, it'll be a little easier to land someone considering the $$$ the Habs will have to spend.

I'm very curious to see who stays, and who goes!

Peace man!Yveshttp://yvesonhabs.blogspot.com/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-703672817425686916.post-41084577290442943032009-04-27T15:42:00.000-04:002009-04-27T15:42:00.000-04:00Re: Komisarek. I can't see someone paying him big bucks after sucj a poor season but hey, Redden got a ridiculous contract so who knows.

I wonder if Gainey would feel any pressure ro re-sign him after losing Souray & Streit to UFA in consecutive years?jkrnoreply@blogger.com
