This is one of those Eklundisms that may indeed have some legs because it makes sense; it would give the Ducks the cap relief they need, and Gainey has mentioned he'd like a seventh d-man. Still wouldn't solve the "problem" at centre, though the Habs did pretty well last year with only two centres producing most of the seasonArpon Basuhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11896844844557916169noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-703672817425686916.post-66071513741807960482008-08-27T14:39:00.000-04:002008-08-27T14:39:00.000-04:00Well done Arpon, I love that you're doing this!!I'...Well done Arpon, I love that you're doing this!!

I'm sure that Gainey has been looking into Plan B for months now, and knows well what is available, and at what cost.

I trust his judgement.

you?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-703672817425686916.post-40358747258804113262008-08-27T14:04:00.000-04:002008-08-27T14:04:00.000-04:00selanne is a pipe dream (mine at least) but we're ...selanne is a pipe dream (mine at least) but we're talking centers because that's where we're sorely lacking.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-703672817425686916.post-48433472936414789362008-08-27T13:42:00.000-04:002008-08-27T13:42:00.000-04:00I hear Schneider's name bandied about and again on...I hear Schneider's name bandied about and again on HockeyBuzz this morning (not that that means squat) but this makes sense to me, if he can be had for say, Latendresse or Chipchura or Fischer/3rd round pick, Diagostini. Not only fills Streit's place on the powerplay (which could have been done by Kovalev), but gives them a better all-around defenseman who still can play the game and has loads of playoff experience and is familiar with Montreal pressure cooker... and makes their top 4 pretty decent on D. Also makes one of Georges/O'Byrne/Boullion a lot better than Brisebois as a 7th D... although Brisebois didn't do too bad (compared to years' past) last season with Habs.Andy J Smith illustrationhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11726497955237178723noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-703672817425686916.post-30588677381267975292008-08-27T13:13:00.000-04:002008-08-27T13:13:00.000-04:00I will vomit if Lang is the only plan b...i'd rath...I will vomit if Lang is the only plan b...

i'd rather sign traverse long termAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-703672817425686916.post-38942589571327711452008-08-27T12:39:00.000-04:002008-08-27T12:39:00.000-04:00We don't need no stinkin' playmakers. The other possibility is that he's just that kind of player, a complementary part who moves from team to team to fill needs. Bryan Smolinski's the same type of guy, and I can tell you he wasn't disliked in the Habs room last year. Though Havlat spends a lot of time in Montreal in the off-season, I can't see Gainey taking a $6 million risk on a guy who hasn't played a full season of hockey his entire career. Undeniable talent, very questionable toughness. Gainey said yesterday that the position someone like Shanahan would have filled on the team a couple of years ago has been taken by other players, and I would assume the same logic would apply to Havlat.Arpon Basuhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11896844844557916169noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-703672817425686916.post-18020448851355467732008-08-27T11:39:00.000-04:002008-08-27T11:39:00.000-04:00I hope any trade or movement is draft pick based. ...I hope any trade or movement is draft pick based. Havlat would be a better option if his injury problems are behind him. He has played wing but is a natural centre. Chicago's first salary cap priority will be to move Khabibulin, not a forward, where they aren't deep, as you noted. Marleau isn't going anywhere. I wouldn't dismiss a trade with an Eastern team so fast.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-703672817425686916.post-14437671294130692602008-08-27T10:58:00.000-04:002008-08-27T10:58:00.000-04:00We could move Higgins to center and sign a very ca...We could move Higgins to center and sign a very capable winger like Selanne?
