Leopold to Cowtown, what's left?

Well, Jordan Leopold has gone back to the Calgary Flames, the team that traded him away for Alex Tanguay.

I really thought Leopold would have been a good fit in Montreal and the price was right, both in terms of what the Avs got (a prospect and a pick) and in terms of his cap hit. An opportunity lost, in my opinion, but that's not to say that Bob Gainey isn't trying to address his depth on defence.

But what else is out there? The Avs have Brett Clark and Ruslan Salei apparently available, and the Nick Boynton situation in Florida looks to be pretty dicey as well. Could Gainey be quietly in on Derek Morris, even though the general consensus is that he is headed to either Boston, Philly or Washington?

Also, anyone wondering whether or not Gainey might go after Gary Roberts off waivers should know that he just cleared, largely because of his hefty cap hit.

Stay tuned...

UPDATE: The cost for Leopold was a second round pick, unheralded defence prospect Ryan Wilson and d-man Lawrence Nycholat, who was claimed off waivers just the other day. That's not a whole lot, and if the Habs were interested I would have to believe they could have topped that with the armada of defence prospects in their stable. I guess they weren't interested, which I simply don't understand.

It gets worse. Looks like Jokinen is going to Calgary or Lombardi and a pick.

Not sure what Gainey is after at this point, if anything. We desperately need a centre. Lecavalier?

I can't get excited by Leopold. I watch him play & look at his numbers but I'm not impressed.
